Autonomous Robotic System for Breast Biopsy With Deformation Compensation

چکیده
Image-guided biopsy is the most common technique for breast cancer diagnosis. Although magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has highest sensitivity in lesion detection, ultrasound (US) guidance generally preferred due to its non-invasiveness and real-time image feedback during insertion. In this work, we propose an autonomous robotic system US-guided of lesions identified on pre-operative MRI. After initial MRI registration, US probe attached manipulator compresses tissues until a pre-determined force level reached. This technique, known as preloading, will allow minimize displacement needle Our workflow integrates deformation compensation strategy based patient-specific biomechanical model update orientation keeping target plane compression. By relying model, proposed does not require visibility US. Experimental evaluation performed assess performance realistic phantom with 15 internal lesions, considering different preloading forces. The allows improve localization accuracy, consequence final positioning, all considered lesions. Median error 3.3 mm, which lower than median radius, when applying 2 N, guarantees both minimal insertion tissue stress.

Stormram 2: A MRI-Compatible Robotic System for Breast Biopsy
In breast cancer screening, the doctor looks for lesions using mammography, ultrasound, palpation and/or MRI. A suspicious lesion may need to be biopsied; if the lesion is only visible on MRI, then a MRI-guided biopsy is required which is a long and costly procedure. Also, because manual needle insertion takes place outside the scanner, there is no real-time imaging feedback resulting in insert...

The paper presents the development of an intelligent robot system for the autonomous picking of many thousands of different hard goods (cardboard boxes) and soft goods (textiles packed in transparent foils) out from unstructured heaps in commission tasks of catalogue sale companies. For task solution, a 6-axes industrial robot is employed, which can be equipped with various mechatronic grippers...
متن کاملThree-dimensional ultrasound guidance of autonomous robotic breast biopsy: feasibility study.
Feasibility studies of autonomous robot biopsies in tissue have been conducted using real-time three-dimensional (3-D) ultrasound combined with simple thresholding algorithms. The robot first autonomously processed 3-D image volumes received from the ultrasound scanner to locate a metal rod target embedded in turkey breast tissue simulating a calcification, and in a separate experiment, the cen...
متن کاملA semi-autonomous replicating robotic system
The concept of self-replicating machines was introduced more than fifty years ago by John von Neumann. However, a fully autonomous self-replicating robot has yet to be implemented. This paper discusses our ongoing research on self-replicating robots. Here we describe a semiautonomous prototype that can demonstrate replication under human supervision. This work builds on our previous results in ...
